I have been asked about what is "AKO" anyway.  Well maybe here I can explain how useful this link is for anyone in the Army, Army Reserve, or National Guard.  Yes you must be in the Army to get access to it.  It has preloaded Social Security Numbers to verify that.

First off "AKO" stands for Army Knowledge Online.  The link is http://www.us.army.mil/.  This is a secure email account (with 50 MB of space) and a home page that you can customize the page for the information you would like to see.  It also gives quick access to all kinds of army links that are quite useful.  Plus you can Instant message or chat with someone.  You can also put documents in an area to share with other members  (good for a telephonic briefing).

Now another added advantage is you can take your user ID and password from your AKO and use it in another site.  This site is ran from AR-PERSCOM.  The link is https://www.2xcitizen.usar.army.mil/.  This site will allow access to your records.  That is right!  Lost your DD Form 214, want to look or even print a NCOER for a promotion board.  Now you can.  This is also a secure web site so you will also have to have the latest Web browser like Internet Explorer or Netscape.

If you have trouble with getting your account or you have some questions. Here is the contact info.

Newman, a U.S. Marine assigned to a top-secret National Security Council staff position at the White House. (Guess whose old job and office Newman occupies.) Newman is ordered to coordinate a covert operation to eliminate a group of international law breakers including Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden. When the mission is compromised, Newman and his personnel are left hanging,
