Where to Start

If you are new to web graphics, the US Army has this page of Frequently Asked Questions for DoD webmasters with ideas about software to use, other techniques, and where to get clipart and other resources. And this similar page from the Pentagon Library has a long list of resources. You might also find the Color Center a useful tool.

The Air War College has prepared this excellent page which is the Gateway to Military Clip Art & Multimedia resources.

 

Animated GIF Archive has a good collection of military items under the topic "Combat" on this page.

Animation Factory has many military GIFs in their index. Try War, then Transportation for planes and helicopters, Flags for military flags, and Misc. which has sub-headings for Cannons and Guns, among others.

Armor Foto has a big page of public domain line drawings of military vehicles and weapons.

Armor Graphic Links has a long list of links to clipart resources, particularly related to armored vehicles, compiled by the Washington Armor Club. See also their outstanding armor photo collection.

Army Awards has a"Rack Builder" listing of images of US Military Decorations, Good Condust, Service (Campaign) Medals and Service and Training Ribbons, and more.

Army Clipart and Photo gallery from DPMO, Fort Eustis, Virginia. Includes vehicles, insignia, aircraft, and much more. The same organization also maintains this catalog of "Vehicle Icons" which are additional clip art for trucks, trailers, armor and heavy equipment.

 

Art Today can be searched for clipart in many categories, including almost anything military you can think of. Requires membership, free or paid, and even the free 3-day trial membership has a lot of images available. Try it for free to see if it meets your needs.

Barry's Clip Art service has a lot of military related free stuff. Use this link to his search page.

Bayonet.net has clipart images and photos related to the U.S. Army to be used in preparing briefings, reports, or other training materials.

George R. Bradford offers sets of drawings (1:35 scale) of scores of military vehicles, listed with ordering instructions on this page.

Cartoon Clips has a small collection of drawings of guns, trucks, planes and a few other things.

Clipart.com has a huge number of affiliates (including Olive-Drab) that can be searched and accessed from their web site. Please click through from here so Olive-Drab gets credit for the traffic.

DefenseLink has extensive clip art and graphics, including insignia and seals for the US services, on their multimedia page.

Doc's Military and Patriotic Clipart page has many images and links to lots more.

Go to this page on the Digital Logistics web site and download a free file of weapons and vehicles clipart (menu on left).

Energy efficiency is the theme of this collection from the Navy/Marine Corp.

The Eyetide free, interactive screen saver, explained on their website, has many military images that you can use on your own computer. The content can be updated automatically within categories you select. (Thanks to Rob Kiser for this item.)

The Federal Clip Art Collection is electronic artwork illustrated on a computer by expertly trained artists for use by desktop publishers competing in the federal arena. Federal Clip Art has 14 collections of over 7,800 computer illustrations hand-drawn to government specifications. Topics range from military insignia and combat art to foreign and domestic maps, flags and coats of arms.

The Federation of American Scientists US Land Warfare Systems page has an index of scores of vehicles, armor, and other systems with links to a page for each one that often includes a line drawing, photo or other graphics. Also has a list of further resources including clip art libraries.

Flag Index is a directory of hundreds of sites with every variation of flags and banners as graphics, clipart, screensavers or photos: countries, maritime signals, religious and tribal, patriotic symbols and more.
 

The Flag Pole has a very nice collection of American patriotic graphics, flags, ribbons and web page design elements. Includes a free Flash file entitled 'America' that you can add to your web site.

Graphic Maps is an excellent source for maps and related art. Continents, countries, flags, globes etc.

Grunt's Military Site has very complete sets of insignia, medals, and ribbons plus other military reference material.

Insignia Imprints has this large page of insignia for imprinting -- can be used as clip art.

Military organizations can request this Luke AFB CD of 600+ images of ACC aircraft, Special Operations, line art, patches, and specific aircraft weapons.

Luke's Military Graphics has a large and interesting collection well indexed to make it easy to use. Many vehicles.

Military Clip Art collections from Old Mountain Press & Software include insignia, forms and and graphics for Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, USMC, and Coast Guard.

Rene's Hot Armor offers a full collection of armor images, compressed for download.

Right Hook has a growing collection of weapons clip art, for download in PC or Mac format.

The S-2 Company has a set of "dissemination and presentation" files designed for intelligence professionals which include vehicle graphics, sets of symbols, images, and fonts.

DefenseLink has a comprehensive set of pages listing U.S. Military Service Ribbons and Awards. They provide the graphics of the decorations and awards, as well as the order of precedence for wearing individual decorations and awards.
